Introduce your children to the imaginary world of Tolkien with the visually stunning “John Ronald’s Dragons”

Fantasy / Philip Kosloski

The life of J.R.R. Tolkien has always been an inspiration to me. Throughout all of the suffering he endured in life, he kept close to his Catholic faith and wove a majestic tapestry of beauty in his imaginary world of Middle-Earth. Tolkien’s works are inspiring in numerous ways and provide a truly Catholic view of

If C.S. Lewis had ever tried his hand at the American comic-book superhero genre, he might have come up with something like this. Gandalf’s Baptism in the bowels of Moria

Fantasy / Philip Kosloski

One of the greatest scenes in The Lord of the Rings is Gandalf’s battle with the Balrog. Whenever I watch it or read it, I cannot help but think of the Fellowship’s “plunge” into the darkness of Moria and return to daylight as a sort of baptism for the entire group, especially Gandalf the Grey.

Living Water: The Christology of DC’s “Aquaman”

Comics / Philip Kosloski

Among the many traditions of Christmastide in 21st Century America, few are as enjoyable as the annual Twitter slugfest over a certain action movie’s status as a member of the season’s cinematic canon. I speak, of course, of John McTiernan’s 1988 classic Die Hard. That a vociferous dispute over a Bruce Willis actioner’s right to
