Welcome back to this week’s edition of “The Captain’s Log!” I would like to share with you an update on our Joan of Arc series and what else we have been working on this week.
First of all, roughly 2 years ago we released The Mission of Joan of Arc comic book series, highlighting the life and legends of St. Joan of Arc. I was initially inspired to write this series after reading a script for a play composed by St. Therese of Lisieux, a French nun who lived in the 19th century. It may seem odd to base a comic book series on a play written by a cloistered nun, but what intrigued me was how she gave St. Michael the Archangel a leading role. This is very unique in all the dramatizations of Joan’s life. Typically St. Michael, if he is mentioned at all, is a “voice.” However, to be honest, most of the time Joan is depicted as mentally unstable. What fascinated me was when I went back to the transcript of Joan’s trials, she described seeing St. Michael in a material form. She didn’t simply “hear” him, but also “saw” him. In creating this series I wanted to honor Joan’s original experience and create a comic book that visually portrayed the heavenly commander and how he helped her on the battlefield.
The first issue of the comic book series was a success and we completed the series last year with the second issue. After Christmas we ran-out of physical copies of the first issue and were discussing how best to do a re-print. This week we finally decided to re-print the first issue of this series, but to also make a few tweaks to the artwork and production layout. The “refreshed” first issue is currently available for pre-order and will be shipping out to customers by May 30, the feast of St. Joan of Arc and the anniversary of her martyrdom.
This week we have also been working on The Phantom Phoenix and continue to make progress on it. Look-out for an interview this weekend we recently did for a Chicago newspaper! Once it is published, we will share it on our social media networks!
That is pretty much it for this week! Be sure to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and St. Joseph’s Day!
Until next time!
Godspeed,
