The Captain’s Log – 003

Welcome back to another edition of “The Captain’s Log!” This week I will update you on our upcoming projects and why March is one of my favorite months of the year!

To begin, The Phantom Phoenix is coming along quite nicely! Michael LaVoy has inked 7 pages so far, with Jay David Ramos close behind with his beautiful colors. By the way, have you seen the cover artwork yet? It is AMAZING! You can see it at the end of this letter if you scroll down. The church on the cover is The Phantom Phoenix’s “base of operations,” and is based off a real-life church in Chicago. It used to be a Polish church in the 1920s and was called St. Casimir, but was consolidated in the 1990s and is now part of Our Lady of Tepeyac Parish. If you haven’t placed your pre-order for this exciting new superhero series, do so today! You can now add a t-shirt and even a rare signed copy of the cover artwork to your order.

March is a great month for many reasons. In Wisconsin it is Spring and that means warmer weather, which is always a plus! Also, March has some of my favorite feast days in the liturgical calendar. The first is St. Patrick’s Day, which is a great day to celebrate the saint and everything Irish. As you know, our company began with the Finnian Series, which starts-off on the mysterious Irish island of Skellig Michael. A few years ago I was able to make a pilgrimage to Ireland and even tried to reach Skellig Michael. Unfortunately the weather did not allow us to go out to the island and I had to leave the next day. Someday I hope to return and ascend the steps of that mystical place. March also honors St. Joseph, whose feast day is March 19. He will be making a cameo in our next comic, The Phantom Phoenix!

March also honors my favorite author of all-time, J.R.R. Tolkien!!! March 25 is known as “Tolkien Reading Day,” and is a day I enthusiastically celebrate each year. If you want to know why March 25 was chosen, check-out this article I wrote a few years ago about it. Speaking about Tolkien, we keep on running-out of our most popular t-shirt on our online store, The Sun will Soon Rise Above the ShadowI keep on re-ordering more prints of this t-shirt and every time they sell out! Monday (March 8) is the last day to place your order for this month to ensure you get the size you need.

That is about it for this week’s Captain’s Log. If you missed the last two editions, you can always check-out our archive.

Until next week!

Godspeed,

Philip Kosloski
